Lake Manyara, situated at an elevation of 960m (3150ft), is a shallow alkaline lake formed within a depression in the Rift Valley system. The flora within Lake Manyara National Park boasts diversity with over 670 documented flowering plants and fern species. The park is renowned for hosting thousands of flamingos that flock along the lake's edge during the wet season. Moreover, the park serves as a primary concentration area for populations of large migratory mammals.
Day 1
You'll be picked up in Moshi and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full-day game drive in the park. In the afternoon, your driver will set and prepare the table for a full hot meal lunch, soup bread rolls, main dish and fruit salad followed by a glass of wine, tea and coffee. After lunch, continue with a game drive. In the evening, drive back to Moshi for a drop-off at the airport.
Lake Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Inland of the floodplain a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favoured haunt of Manyara’s legendary tree-climbing lions and impressively tusked elephants.
